Lower Bow Lodge

Lower Bow Lodge, Alberta, Canada
Alberta's famous Bow River, synonymous with large hard fighting rainbow and brown trout has a “secret” section of river that receives very little fishing pressure. This section starts at the Carseland Weir and enters the Siksika Nation lands about eight kilometres (five miles) downstream. The river emerges from the Reserve about 100 river kilometres (60 miles) later. There are no access points through this section of the Bow River and anglers who launch at the weir must use a jet boat to return upstream. Because of this you will see very few anglers or boats on this magnificent stretch of the Bow River.

The Lower Bow Lodge is operated by Silvertip Outfitters. Silvertip’s owner, Eric Grinnell, has been guiding on the Bow River since 1980. Eric is a biologist who enjoys sharing his knowledge of the Bow River valleys' flora and fauna. Says Eric, “I founded Silvertip Outfitters guiding and outfitting in 1981. Popularity of the Bow and its great fishing grew and it rapidly became a destination river. I became intrigued by the unknown section of the Bow, through the Blackfoot Reserve and in the late 80's pioneered guiding on this part of the river.” To this day, Silvertip Outfitters is the only guide service operating on a regular basis below the Carseland weir. Eric and his team of professional guides use jet boats to access the fish in this section of the river so that you can enjoy the experience of fishing this little used section of the famous Bow River.

Another fishing option offered by Silvertip is the lower Oldman River in southern Alberta. Here you will fish through the Peigan Reserve, enjoying both the fishing for lightly pressured trout and the amazing southern Alberta scenery. Jet boats are also used on the Oldman River due to access restrictions
